The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce as a result of its negative effects on the environment. Introducing R-410A To lessen environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, making it ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Chadron because it’ll help make your cooling system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might look into upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately unavailable. The old refrigerant will become hard to find in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at MPC Heating & Cooling work with R-410A, so you can rest assured we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. Additionally, avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
