Vacuuming carpet to improve air quality

How Can I Improve My Indoor Air Quality?

The EPA has noted that indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted than the air in highly industrialized cities. Indoor air is also more stale. While we’d all like to be able to open the windows and let in some fresh air, that’s not always reasonable, especially this winter. There are some basic things you can do to improve your indoor air quality and have a healthier home environment.

Keep Your Home Clean

A vacuum with a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) filter, strong suction and rotating brushes is a wise investment in the air quality of your home. Vacuuming once a week with a HEPA-certified vacuum can lessen the dust and allergens accumulating in your carpets and upholstered furniture.

There are some things that sneak by your vacuum no matter how clean you keep your home. If you or someone in your home has allergies, a PureAir™ Air Purification System may be just what you need. This system is a whole-home solution that gets rid of particles and odors, and neutralizes chemical vapors – all things that could severely impact respiratory issues.

Air Purifying Plants

Plants are a natural way to purify your air and all plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. In addition, there are some plants that have been found to also destroy harmful toxins such as: benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.

If you’d like to add an air purifying plant to your home, you can find a list of those plants by reading the NASA Clean Air Study. If you have pets, you’ll want to check and be sure any plants you’re bringing in to your home are not harmful to them if they end up giving them a taste test.

Keep Your Home Ventilated

Modern homes are built to keep outdoor air out of your home in order to maintain energy efficiency. This lack of ventilation means a build up of air pollutants inside. While it’s easy to go ahead and crack a window, that may not solve it, which is why we have a few different ventilation products to help increase your indoor air quality and keep your home’s air clean and fresh.
